The long goodbye

The Zilog Z80 has now had its final production run, but I’m sure there will be plenty of them still working away for the next few decades(*).

For nostalgia purposes (and as spares for the various Z80 computers I have), I ordered some of the last production run in April. They arrived this week. This chip is the 10MHz version, with a date code of week 18, 2024.

(*) And of course, the eZ80 is still in production and there are people already working on a Z80 clone. There are always Z80 software emulation libraries too … so it’s not really goodbye, but farewell to the Zilog original being in production.
